PROJECT PURPOSE
Here is an excellent professional
development opportunity for Math, Science and English
teachers! Visit the workplace to see how employees use academic
skills in their daily work.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
El Paso businesses offer El Paso
teachers the opportunity to witness academics in action. A middle
or high school Math, Science or English
teacher is paired with an industry representative during a 40-hour
externship. The externship experience is available during the
spring / summer breaks, or school intercession.
Each teacher will receive a $360.00
stipend and a SBEC Continuing Professional Education (CPE) certificate
for 40 clock hours from the Upper Rio Grande Tech-Prep and Youth
Consortium, after the development of lesson plans that provide
relevant, real-world connections for students.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
- 1. PRE-EXTERNSHIP
MEETING
- Meet with the business representative
to establish your week of work and an expectation of duties relating
to your academic objectives.
- 2. WORK
EXPERIENCE
- Spend a week in the business
and make connections between academic learning and real work
experiences.
- 3. LESSON
PLANNING
- Develop a one-week set of curriculum
lesson plans, addressing essential skills in your field of instruction.
