The Upper Rio Grande WDA
(Workforce Development Area)
 
A 21,000 square mile region of west Texas encompassing El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Jeff Davis, Presidio and Brewster counties.

The Upper Rio Grande College Tech-Prep Youth Consortium

  • is a cooperative group of government agencies, school districts, post-secondary educational institutions, civic and trade associations, employers and educators dedicated to the economic development of our region.
  • serves over 650,000 people and over 800 employers in 25 school districts.
  • was established in 1991 under the federal Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, which established Tech-Prep. The federal School-to-Work Opportunities Act of 1994 added School-to-Careers programs. Current Texas legislation can be found at the Texas Workforce Commission web site - http://www.twc.state.tx.us.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Upper Rio Grande College Tech-Prep Youth Consortium shall be to provide quality technical assistance, support, and leadership to participating educational business/industry/labor organizations within the region to prepare students for academic and technical achievement for improved regional economic growth.
